Youth Leadership Workshop

Monday, June 28 through Thursday, July 1, 2004

Building on the success of the youth-oriented program during the SoL Global Forum 2003, members of the SoL Youth and Education Network (YEN) lead this workshop. The session was intended for youth (ages 13+) and their teachers/parents/mentors/coaches who want to work together to learn and develop powerful leadership concepts and practices enabling youth to make a difference in their lives, families, schools, and communities.

Attendees were exposed to the disciplines of organizational learning—systems thinking, mental models, team learning, shared vision, and personal mastery—in this experiential and fun workshop. On Tuesday, June 28, participants also had the opportunity to attend two of the keynote sessions of the Seventh Annual Meeting of SoL, whichwas held concurrently in the same hotel. A major component of the workshop was the active practice of the five disciplines through the completion of a special project. Participants also investigated ways in which they can apply the workshop experience in co-creating an ongoing community of learners. Agenda

The Youth Leadership Workshop was developed by SoL members Patrick Parker-Roach, Louann Reilly, Carolyn Hendrickson and Micah Fierstein. The material has been tailored specifically for youth and has been delivered in traditional educational settings, inner city community-based environments and at the Society for Organizational Learning’s 2003 Global Forum in Helsinki, Finland.

This workshop was facilitated by SoL members Patrick Parker-Roach, Louann Reilly and other special guests.
