The 1st SoL Global Forum was designed as an opportunity for SoL members to interact with each other directly about their work. As a result, there were over 50 parallel sessions scheduled for this meeting. Members were invited to offer case studies, tools and methodolgoies, and research work. Some sessions included elements of all three. Sessions were identified according to the primary theme they addressed.

IN Innovation

Creating desired futures can require fundamentally new approaches in an enterprise's "business". These sessions explore levels of innovation - from product design and manufacturing, to reinventing an entire business, to transforming the work culture. Sessions in this theme will focus on learning for innovation.

CH Large System Change

Many of the futures we seek to bring into being cannot be accomplished by one team, department or organisation operating independently. Sessions in this theme will focus on building new structures and relationships that span organisational boundaries. Specific issues will include how traditional adversaries can work together effectively, changing mental models in complex environments, initiating and sustaining change in global organisations, and cross-sectoral (business, government and civil society) collaboration.

LD Leadership Development

In complex, dynamic systems, leadership must be shared. Developing leadership for collective intelligence and responsible action is a complement to the traditional need to develop the next generation of leaders. These sessions will focus on developing leadership for inventing desired futures, and building communities of leaders within and across organisations.

LR Learning Regions

As a specific type of large system change, many learning regions are emerging - intentional networks of individuals and communities desiring to more fully recognize and use interdependencies at a local and global level. These sessions will examine how networks of individual communities tie the theme of learning communities to learning organisations in a global society.

LS Learning Schools

Education and youth development are opportunities for us to create lasting capacity for learning and change. Sessions will address the shift from teaching to coaching, systems thinking in the classroom, youth leadership, and shared vision and values. Please note that there will also be a pre-meeting Education and Youth Development Forum on Tuesday and Wednesday.

OL Organisational Learning

The capacity to create what we want collectively on a repeatable basis depends on our mastery of organisational learning. These sessions will explore new theoretical developments and review basic frameworks, provide opportunities to practice new tools and methods, and consider applications of these practices in a variety of contexts.

SB Spirit in Business

The current crisis in business ethics has degraded confidence, value and markets. It calls for business leaders who operate daily from their internal compasses and guiding values, who understand that integrity and ethics are internally formed rather than legally imposed. Connecting meaningful issues to daily business life is not a cost but an investment of time, money and thought that bears fruit in the long run and is a building block for successful and sustainable companies. These sessions will explore, promote and celebrate the reconnection of ethics, values and spirit in business leadership.

SU Sustainability

A long-standing interest area within SoL centers on economic, environmental and social sustainabilty. The coordinators of SoL's Sustainaibility Consoritum ask, "Are we truly creating economic, ecological, and social wealth, or are we merely extracting short-term profits, leaving long-term debts for future generations? How do we create businesses and economies that meet a "triple bottom line" of people, profit, and planet?" Sessions in this theme will focus on learning for desired results and long-term sustainability.

EYD Education and Youth Development Forum

The Education and Youth Development Forum will bring together youth and educators to share work and ideas, inquire and learn together about the futures they want to create, and expand and deepen their networks of relationships. Sessions will include a Core Competencies course for Youth, presentations by International School Connection and Team Academy and a meeting of the Youth and Education Network (YEN).

PRE Pre-Meeting Capacity Building Sessions

Pre-Meeting capacity building sessions will prepare participants for the Forum while helping to build capacity and theoretical knowledge.
