Community Purpose Gulf SoL is a collaborative learning community of private enterprises, public institutions, and not for profit NGOs in the Persian Gulf Region who share a common interest in promoting sustainable models of economic and social development.
The purpose of the Gulf SoL community is to promote interdependent development of people and their institutions, through three main activities:
- Exploring core questions through cross-sector dialogue.
- Expanding and deepening connections across the SoL community through results-oriented projects.
- Building capacity through the application and practice of core organizational learning principles
Core Questions
Gulf SoL promotes dialogue among leaders in the Gulf Region around social and economic issues of deep importance to the broader community. Our dialogues provide a space for reflection and engagement around issues that matter in shaping the future of the region.
Community Connections Gulf SoL provides tools and convenes events to promote discovery and sustain knowledge sharing among our members.
We support open collaboration and exchange between our members through periodic conferences, meetings, and dialogue sessions. We also provide collaborative tools in our website. With online discussions, document sharing, event calendar, and member profiles, our website provides a virtual workspace for our project working groups, special interest groups, and general membership to create and share knowledge.
Applied Learning Gulf SoL promotes capacity-building among our members in the disciplines of organizational learning. We sponsor frequent workshops that are conducted by our consultant members or consultants from the global SoL community. We also promote the practice of reflection and action research among working groups engaged in community-sponsored projects.
Membership Structure Gulf SoL offers separate membership for organizations and for individuals. Our organizational members are innovative companies and institutions who recognize their role in a broader social context and who seek to actively collaborate with other members in projects to build a more sustainable future.
Our organizational members include large corporations (with over 1000 employees and top-line revenues exceeding $50 MM per year), small & medium size enterprises (primarily family businesses and subsidiaries), and not for profit organizations.
Individual members of Gulf SoL include researchers, consultants, and practitioners who are committed to practicing and promoting the principles of organizational learning in their respective organizations and among their clients.
Governance Gulf SoL is a new SoL community, officially formed in September, 2004. An Interim Organizing Committee, representing the original founding members of Gulf SoL, currently serves as the governing body for the community. The voting members of the Interim Organizing Committee are:
